LIANG Jianling

2025 - Diploma in Applied Education

Current - Higher Diploma in Cloud and Data Centre Administration, Hong Kong Institute of Information Technology

I am a graduate of the previous DAE cohort at the UOW College, having majored in Japanese Language and Culture.

Throughout my DAE learning journey, progressing from a student unfamiliar with even the Japanese syllabary to one proficient in fundamental Japanese language skills, I owe much to the patient guidance of my lecturers and the mutual encouragement of my fellow classmates, which bolstered my confidence and perseverance. We systematically developed cross-cultural communication abilities, progressing from foundational grammar to practical conversation, and from analysing anime scripts to exploring Japanese culture, social etiquette, and modes of expression.

IP Yu Shan

2024 - Diploma in Applied Education

Current - Associate of Social Science in Social Work, UOW College Hong Kong

I am a mature student. I have worked and quitted studies for many years, so it is not easy for me to study again. English was the most difficult subject for me, but luckily, I met some very good classmates and teachers, who guided me very well.  I myself also worked very hard. Finally, I was awarded the Outstanding Performance Scholarship and was able to further study in the Associate of Social Science in Social Work programme at UOW College HK. I hope that I can help the needy in society in future.

Liu Tin Yan

2023 - Associate of Arts in Bilingual Communication Studies

Current - Nagasaki International University

At first, I didn't have a grand goal to study for an associate's bilingual literature, but in the process, I met like-minded students and started papers on different topics. Although I had a deeper understanding of Japanese culture and history, I also increased my knowledge of other categories. Therefore, I have come to Japan to study at Nagasaki International University. Now I have been exposed to the little-known museum courses in Hong Kong, lived a fulfilling college life, and cultivated my personal interest in increasing my knowledge. UOW College Hong Kong has successfully paved the way for my future. At the same time, I sincerely thank the teachers for their patient guidance.

LO Tsz Lan Esther

2020 - Associate of Arts in Applied Chinese Studies

Graduated – Master of Philosophy, The University of Hong Kong

The meaning of education is nothing other than “preaching, lecturing and resolving doubts” (as suggested in “On Teaching” by Han Yu), or in other words, helping students reflect on the relationship between themselves and the world, and enabling them to find out their roles in the society. The two years I spent in the Applied Chinese Studies programme laid a solid foundation for my professional knowledge. The teachers also guided me to explore the world and made me dare to imagine more possibilities in life. This is the meaning of education, and the whereabouts that UOW College Hong Kong has provided me.

Kwok Chi Hang, Cindy

2023 - Bachelor of Arts in Japanese Studies

Current - Master of Arts in Japanese Studies, The Chinese University of Hong Kong

I am a graduate of the Bachelor of Arts in Japanese Studies program at UOW College Hong Kong. Currently, I am attending the Master of Arts in Japanese Studies program at The Chinese University of Hong Kong. During my four years of study at the college, the curriculum covered a wide range of knowledge, enabling me to solidify my foundational skills and apply what I learned to my current studies. Additionally, I participated in the 2023 summer study tour, undertaking a short-term study program at Tokushima Bunri University in Kagawa Prefecture. Among these experiences, I was especially pleased to stay at a traditional Japanese inn, participate in workshops on indigo dyeing, fan-making, wagashi making, and geta sandal crafting, as well as visit various famous sites and interact with local students. This allowed me to deeply experience the local culture, creating memories that will stay with me for a lifetime. Furthermore, the college has established various scholarships, and I was honored to receive the “Mizoguchi Scholarship Award” and the “Outstanding Performance Scholarship”, which provided me with opportunities to access additional learning resources. I extend my deepest gratitude to all my esteemed professors at the college for their guidance and care, which have provided invaluable support throughout my growth and academic journey. I will carry forward this passion, continuing to pursue knowledge and broaden my horizons.

Chan Yin Tung

2021 – Bachelor of Arts (Honours) in Japanese Studies

Graduated – Master of Arts in Japanese Studies, Chinese University of Hong Kong

Hello, I am a graduate of the 2021 Bachelor of Arts in Japanese Studies (BAJS) programme, the first cohort of graduates from the programme. Looking back, our experiences were truly unique. The pandemic disrupted all plans and led to the cancellation of both on-campus and off-campus activities, including previous activities like Japanese dubbing contests, karaoke events, and summer study tours, which were the sources of joy during our free time. Teachers often facilitated us to interact with Japanese students, of which allowing us to act as tour guides to lead Japanese high school students on tours in Hong Kong is the most unforgettable experience. Despite the cancellations, teachers generously guided us academically and giving advice on further studies. Their recommendations had helped me secure scholarships from the Hong Kong and Japanese governments for studying Japanese and Japanese culture at Osaka University for a year. This experience broadened my horizons and allowed me to make friends from around the world. Upon returning to Hong Kong, I enrolled in the Master's programme in Japanese Studies at the Chinese University of Hong Kong to continue my studies. I firmly believe that the Japanese Studies programme deepened our understanding of Japan.
