Assistant Professor, Faculty of Arts and Humanities [Ref.2024/ACAD004]

Faculty of Arts and Humanities

The Faculty of Arts and Humanities currently offers four associate degree programmes, two Cap320 Bachelor degree programmes and a Diploma of Applied Education programme. The programme areas cover Chinese, English, Japanese, Korean, cultural studies, media and communication. With the knowledge and skills acquired from their respective disciplines, our graduates are all well-prepared for further study and employment.

The Faculty of Arts and Humanities has well-qualified full-time academic staff from a multicultural community. Our teachers currently come from Hong Kong, Mainland China, UK, Japan, Korea, Spain, and Canada.

In addition to its own programmes, the Faculty also offers

  1. Internationally recognized language assessment tests (PSC for Putonghua; DELE for Spanish; KLAT for Korean; and TCF for French);
  2. College-wide English language requirement courses;
  3. Summer English enhancement activities such as Summer Splash and the Grammar Drama Camp;
  4. IELTS preparatory courses. 

Job Specification

The Assistant Professor has the following specific responsibilities:

  1. teaching courses in the area of Classical Chinese Literature, Chinese literacy criticism or related discplines;
  2. conducting research, publishing research results in referred academic journals, and attending conferences;
  3. programme administration and course development;
  4. assisting in the development of programmes at different levels;
  5. taking up administrative works at the College level; and
  6. developing and coordinating extra-curricular activities for students.

Qualifications and Experience
Applicants should meet the following requirements:

  1. A doctoral degree in Chinese;
  2. A minimum of three years’ teaching experience in tertiary education;
  3. Good networking and communication skills in liaising with professional bodies and the external community.

Candidates with knowledge of curriculum development, syllabus design, and assessing learning outcomes are preferred.

Salary and Conditions of Service

Remuneration package will be highly competitive, commensurate with qualifications and experience. Appointment will normally be made on fixed-term contract for one year. Fringe benefits include leave, medical and dental schemes.

Executive Assistant/Clerical Officer (ERB Courses)
[Ref. 2024NACAD010]

Duties
The appointees are expected to provide clerical support to the Employees Retraining Board (“ERB”) courses, perform tasks independently, handle general enquiries and perform any other duties as assigned.

Requirements
Applicants must have Level 2 or above in 5 HKDSE subjects including Chinese Language, English Language and Mathematics or 5 passes in HKCEE including Chinese Language, Mathematics and English Language (at least Grade C if syllabus A/Level 2 from 2007) and 2 years’ relevant post-qualification experience.

Good communication and interpersonal skills, strong initiative, self-motivated, detail-minded. Excellent command in MS Excel and strong attention to details with good organizational skills are expected. Good understanding of computer applications including MS Word, PowerPoint and Chinese Word Processing is desirable.

Applicants with less experience may apply for the Clerical Officer position, while those with administrative experience in ERB courses will be preferred.

Executive Officers [Ref. 2024NACAD016]

Duties
The appointee will be responsible for (a) managing the operation of the General Office and supervising supporting staff; (b) performing various administrative functions; (c) assisting in programme admission and registration; and (d) performing other duties as assigned.

Requirements
Applicants must have a good honours degree and 2 years’ relevant post-qualification experience. A good command of written and spoken English and Chinese, proficiency in computer applications, good interpersonal and organization skills, and strong initiative are required. The appointee should be well-organized, flexible, adaptable, and able to work independently.

Shortlisted candidates will be invited for a written test.
