UOW College Hong Kong (“UOWCHK”), formerly Community College of City University (“CCCU”), is an Approved Post Secondary College in Hong Kong registered under the Post Secondary Colleges Ordinance (Cap 320).  The College is widely acknowledged as one of the leading institutions of its kind in Hong Kong, providing quality tertiary education for about 3,500 students.  UOWCHK is part of the University of Wollongong (UOW) global network in Dubai, Malaysia and Australia.  We offer a wide range of Degree, Associate Degree(AD) and Higher Diploma(HD) programmes, a Diploma in General Studies (DipGS), and International Language Proficiency Tests with preparatory courses.  In addition, the College offers top-up degrees awarded directly by UOW for associate degree/higher diploma graduates.  All academic programmes of the College are accredited by the Hong Kong Council for Accreditation of Academic and Vocational Qualifications (HKCAAVQ), and quality-assured and recognized under the Qualifications Framework.

Temporary Research Assistants in Faculty of Art and Humanities

[Ref. 2021NACAD001]

Duties
The College has been awarded 2- years’ research funding in 2020/21 Competitive Research Funding Scheme for the Local Self-financing Degree Sector. Positions for two Research Assistants are now open to assist our principal investigator in conducting the research.

The appointee is expected to assist in academic research, perform research work in archives, through interviews or online, gather and analyze data, and perform other duties as assigned by the supervising instructor.

Requirements

The appointee is expected to have the following qualifications and working experience:

  • At least a master’s degree in language and law or computer or information technology, preferably in machine translation (MT) or a closely related field of natural language processing (NLP);
  • practical experience and programming skills to work on state-of-the-art neural machine translation (NMT) models;
  • capable of building online interactive interface; and
  • able to handle Chinese-English bilingual legal texts for training and testing NMT system.

Salary and Conditions of Service

Duties

The appointee will be responsible to handle facilities management functions and building improvement, repair and maintenance including statutory compliance of Buildings and Facilities; conducting regular inspections and/or carrying out ad hoc and planned maintenance of various campus facilities and equipment; and supervision of contractors and related administration matters.

Requirements

Applicants must be a Degree or Diploma holder, or equivalent, with a minimum of 3 years’ working experience in facilities management at supervisory level. Working knowledge of electrical, air-conditioning, IT cabling, security and fire prevention systems are required.
