Renew & Place a hold

Renewing items

Students

Students can renew borrowed items by login to My Library Account, each loan item maybe renewed for up to 2 consecutive times, unless it already reserved by another user.

The new due date is calculated from the day the item is renewed irrespective of the original due date.

Staff

All items will be automatically renewed twice for academic staff. After two auto-renewals, staff will need to manually renew the item if they wish to extend the loan period.

The new due date is calculated from the day the item is renewed irrespective of the original due date.

Restrictions on renewals

Most items can be renewed online except if:

  • An item is recalled by another user or by Library
  • An item is overdue
  • An item has reached the maximum renewal limit
  • An item is on 2-hours loan period
  • An item has been declared lost and billed for replacement
  • Borrower's account has outstanding charges

Recalled item(s)

All loan items are subject to recall if requested by another user or recalled by the Library. The user will receive a recall notice via email if their loaned item is recalled. Their loan period will be shortened from the date of recall. A new due date will supersede all previous loan periods or due dates.

To avoid incurring overdue fines or suspension of borrowing privilege, check your library record regularly and return the recalled item from the date of recall or by the original due date, whichever comes earlier.

Failure to return any recalled items by the recall date will incur a fine.

Placing holds

Holds allow you to request items already on loan.

To place a hold on an item:

  1. Sign in if you haven't already done so
  2. Click the 'hold' button above the item record.

You'll be notified by email when the item is available for pickup at your Library (you must collect the item within 7 days).

Users cannot request holds for items available for loan in the Library. Holds are not available for 2-hour loans or equipment.
