About 30 staff of UOW College Hong Kong visited neighbouring Guangdong Province in an educational visit entitled “Mainland - Hong Kong – The Imperishable Bond” on 9 May 2025. The activity was organized to enhance national identity among staff, in sync with the Safeguarding National Security Ordinance enacted last year. The staff enjoyed a break from office work as they experienced riding on Shenzhen’s “Skyshuttle” train. The full-day trip included an eye-opening visit to the BYD Toyota EV Technology Exhibition Hall, the Shenzhen Hehu Academy which showcases old Hakka villages, and trees planted by former Chinese leaders Deng Xiaoping, Yang Shangkun and Liu Huaqing in the Shenzhen Fairy Lake Botanical Garden. All these sights helped staff understand the extent of China’s technological advances as well as its culture and history, instilling in them a sense of pride in China’s modern achievements as well as its heritage.
