Students from the Bachelor of Maritime Services and Operations Management (Honours) (BMSOM) got a valuable opportunity to explore Hong Kong’s maritime heritage and deepen their understanding of the shipping and logistics industry as they paid a visit to the Hong Kong Maritime Museum in September 2026.
During the afternoon visit, which was part of the programme’s experiential learning activities, students explored exhibits tracing the historical development of ships and maritime trade, gaining insights into how these have shaped global transportation and commerce. They also learnt about the different types of cargo vessels and their functions, while acquiring a deeper appreciation of Hong Kong’s role as an international maritime and logistics hub.
Reflecting on the experience, one of the students, CHEN Wing Kin, described the visit as both enjoyable and informative. “I was particularly interested in the exhibits featuring bulk carriers and container ships, which helped me better understand their distinct roles in transporting cargo. The displays on maritime trade and the evolution of ships also deepened my understanding of maritime history,” said Wing Kin.
The visit was a valuable opportunity for students to connect classroom learning with the wider maritime sector. It also reinforced their understanding of the relationship between maritime trade, shipping operations, and global logistics.
