To raise awareness and foster practical understanding of data analytics driven by artificial intelligence for staff, the College organized an “AI Tools for Data Analytics” seminar on 27 June 2025.
Conducted by Dr Charlie Choi, Vice-President, and Mr Tony Lam, IT Manager, and attended by 21 participants, the seminar began with an outline of the significance of AI in modern data analytics, emphasizing its advantages in enhancing efficiency, accuracy, and automation. This was followed by practical demonstrations using two datasets, namely, job salary information and student feedback, to illustrate the effectiveness of AI in trend analysis, outlier detection, and automated reporting. Key tools highlighted included H2O.ai for automated machine learning and Julius AI for natural language-driven business analytics.
Participants showed keen interest in choosing the right AI tools for their research. There was a hands-on demonstration of Power BI, showcasing its capabilities in data exploration, interactive visualization, and integration with public government datasets. The merit of Power BI in high-speed SQL querying for large-scale data processing was shown, while all agreed on the transformative potential of these tools in academic and administrative tasks. Given the positive feedback, the College would arrange follow-up workshops in the summer to provide further technical training on AI agent.
