Academic Staff at UOW College Hong Kong were introduced to new tools that would help their professional development in a recent pedagogy seminar.
Held on 23rd January 2026, the seminar featured three sessions. Dr. Siu-kau Cheung, consultant for the College, introduced the “Backward Course Design” framework, guiding participants to rethink curriculum planning by starting with well-defined learning outcomes. Dr. Charlie Choi, Vice-President, followed with practical methods for articulating Course Intended Learning Outcomes using the SOLO taxonomy. In the final session, Mr. Garret Lai from the Faculty of Science and Technology showcased a range of cutting-edge educational technology tools, including Examino, NotebookLM, Gradient, and Gradescope.
The seminar’s hands-on, applicable content enabled the 18 participating staff to have first-hand experience of how the tools could help their work. “The sessions provided concrete strategies we can apply immediately in our classrooms,” one staff noted.
The practical focus reflects the College’s ongoing commitment to teaching excellence and staff development. “This seminar represents our continued investment in pedagogical innovation. We are proud to provide platforms that empower our teaching staff with contemporary, evidence-based approaches to enhance student learning outcomes. These initiatives underscore UOW College Hong Kong’s dedication to maintaining the highest standards in tertiary education and supporting the continuous growth of its academic community,” said Dr. Choi.
