Student Development Services Committee

The main function of the UOWCHK Student Development Services Committee is to provide a range of quality services and care to students enrolled in the College's programmes, including student leadership development, career advisory and training, cultural activities and community services opportunities.

  • To enrich students’ educational experience and whole person development at UOW College Hong Kong (hereafter “the College”) through the provision of various general and specialist services;
  • Through its Career & Leadership Sub-Committee, to equip students of the College for joining society’s workforce and improve their employability upon graduation through the provision of comprehensive career-related learning opportunities and support training;
  • Through its Counselling Service Sub-Committee, to provide effective personal development and counselling services, and mental health awareness education to students of the College via a wide range of activities and programmes in relation to personal development and mental health education for students with different academic and cultural backgrounds;
  • To provide support services and personal development advice to enable students to receive direct assistance to alleviate their emotional distress, explore their personal attributes and develop coping abilities;
  • To train peer counsellors through a Peer Counselling Programme to enable them to take the lead in the College’s student community to maintain an inclusive attitude toward emotionally vulnerable students, including those with Special Educational Needs and those who are Non-Chinese Speaking; and
  • To consider and approve recommendations from the Student Life & Resources Sub-Committee for policies relating to scholarships and awards.

One staff representative from each faculty appointed by the Dean of Faculty, UOWCHK;

One student representative nominated by the Academic Board, UOWCHK;

One representative from the bona fide student body of the College.

 

Secretary:

To be appointed by the Chairman of Academic Board, UOWCHK

 

Term of Office

The term of office of non-student members shall be two years. The student representatives shall serve for a period of one year.

Sub-Committees

Terms of Reference

  • To promote general awareness among students on the importance of mental health;

  • To coordinate activities which encourage students to achieve self-awareness, acceptance, appreciation and personal growth;

  • To recommend strategies and policies related to student counselling and development;

  • To undertake any other duties and functions related to student counselling assigned by the College.

The term of office of Chairman and Members shall be two years.

Terms of Reference

  • To advise the College on all matters related to students’ employment;
  • To maintain awareness of the College in respect of community needs;
  • To support various kinds of College-wide activities to broaden students’ horizon;
  • To promote employers’ interest in and understanding of students of the College;
  • To advise the Career Development Section on the induction of graduating students into employment and on ways for improving the employment opportunities of graduates of the College.

  • To enrich students’ college life, to enhance their learning experience and whole-person development, and to increase their sense of belonging at the College through the provision of various general and specialist services;

  • To provide support services and personal development advice to enable students to receive direct assistance to explore their attributes and develop coping abilities;

  • To nurture the body, mind, and spirit of students through a wide range of services;

  • To recommend policies related to scholarships and awards to the Student Development Services Committee following the budget approved by the College;

  • To report its proceedings annually to the Student Development Services Committee on scholarships and awards;

  • To receive and review applications for scholarships and awards.
