The Bachelor of Aviation (Honours) in Operations and Management (BAvOM) programme aims to provide a broad coverage of the various areas of knowledge associated with aviation including the operational and management aspects of aviation with supportive technologies. It also aims to develop accountable professionals with the capacity to analyze and evaluate problems and issues encountered by the aviation industry, and to formulate effective solutions in an efficient manner.

For admission to bachelor’s degree programmes, applicants must meet the following requirements:

  • * Applicants with previous HKDSE subject result of A040 ‘Liberal Studies’ will be used as the alternative of the core subject requirement of A045 ‘Citizenship and Social Development’.
  • HKDSE Category B subjects (Applied Learning) with attainment at “Attained” or above will be considered as elective subjects.
  • Category C subjects (Other Language Subjects) including French, German, Hindi, Japanese, Spanish and Urdu: Grade E or above;

OR

  • Obtained passes in AS Use of English and AS Chinese Language and Culture plus one AL subject / two AS subjects in HKALE, and passes in five subjects in HKCEE including Chinese Language and English Language; OR
  • Obtained equivalent qualifications.

Mature Applicants

Mature applicants must be over the age of 25 by 1 September of the year of admission and be able to demonstrate aptitude and suitability for the programme applied for.

Note:

For non-Chinese speaking applicants who: 

    • have learnt Chinese Language for less than six years while receiving primary and secondary education; OR
    • have learnt Chinese Language for six years or more in schools, but have been taught an adapted and simpler Chinese Language curriculum not normally applicable to the majority of students in the local schools,

The following language qualifications can be accepted as alternative qualifications in Chinese language:

-   “Attained” in Applied Learning Chinese (for non-Chinese Speaking students) ApL(C)
-   Grade E in GCE (A/AS Level)
-   Grade C in GCE (O-Level)   
-   Grade C / Grade 4 in GCSE / IGCSE

For admission to bachelor’s degree programmes, applicants must meet the following requirements:

Year 3 Entry

Holders of an Associate Degree or a Higher Diploma in a similar or relevant discipline from a recognised tertiary institution in Hong Kong with a cumulative GPA of 2.0 or above or equivalent. Applicants from unrelated disciplines who have demonstrated foundation knowledge in aviation may also be considered.

Note. Associate degree or higher diploma graduates from other disciplines will need to take one year of aviation-related courses offered by UOWCHK before progressing to Year 3 of the programme).

^All Full-time Bachelor Degree (4-year Programme) students are required to take 120 credit units. Eligible students admitted to the BAvOM programme (year-1 entry) through *JUPAS in 2024/25 will receive HK$45,810 per academic year under the Study Subsidy Scheme for Designated Professions/Sectors (SSSDP) from the Hong Kong Government. With SSSDP, the total tuition fee for the four years of study will be HK$104,760.

*All Full-time Bachelor Degree (senior entry) students are required to take 60 credit units. Eligible students admitted to the BAvOM programme (senior year entry) directly through UOWCHK in 2024/25 will receive HK$45,180 per academic year under the Study Subsidy Scheme for Designated Professions/Sectors (SSSDP) from the Hong Kong Government. With SSSDP, the total tuition fee for the two years of study will be HK$60,780.

Other Fee

A Graduation Fee of HK$400 will be charged upon enrolment in a programme.

Financial Assistance

Students enrolled in self-financing Bachelor / Associate Degree / Higher Diploma programmes are eligible to apply for financial assistance from the following sources:

Financial Assistance Scheme for Post-Secondary Students (FASP)

Provides means-tested financial assistance to needy full-time students pursuing locally-accredited, self-financing post-secondary education programmes at the level of associate degree, higher diploma or degree. The scheme aims to provide financial assistance to needy students so that no eligible students will be denied access to post-secondary education because of lack of means.

The NLSPS is used to complement the Financial Assistance Scheme for Post-secondary Students (FASP) to provide loan(s) to eligible students to settle tuition fees of locally-accredited, self-financing full-time post-secondary education programmes at the level of associate degree, higher diploma or degree

Continuing Education Fund (CEF)

Some of the Degree programmes or course(s) in the Degree programmes are included in the list of reimbursable courses for CEF purposes.

The CEF subsidizes students over 18 years of age with learning aspirations to pursue continuing education and training courses.

Eligible applicants enrolling in courses on/after 1 April 2019 will be reimbursed 80% of the course fee on the first $10,000 and 60% on the second $10,000, subject to a maximum sum of HK$20,000 (whichever is the less), on successful completion of a reimbursable course.

Eligible applicants enrolling in courses on/after 1 August 2022 will be reimbursed 80% of the course fee for the first HK$10,000 subsidy and 60% of the course fee for the remaining HK$15,000 subsidy, subject to a maximum sum of HK$25,000 (an increase of the CEF subsidy ceiling from $20,000 to $25,000), on successful completion of a reimbursable course.

Students should pay attention to the eligibility criteria from the Continuing Education Fund before submitting the application.

* In respect of any courses, modules or units of study credits for which the fees are to be reimbursed, the applicant must not have obtained any other public funds or assistance under any other publicly-funded financial assistance schemes for the same course, such as pursuing courses funded by the University Grants Committee, grants or loans from the Financial Assistance Scheme for Post-secondary Students administered by the Student Finance Office (SFO) of the Working Family and Student Financial Assistance Agency (WFSFAA), subsidy from the “Non-means-tested Subsidy Scheme for Self-financing Undergraduate Studies in Hong Kong”  (NMTSS) or “Study Subsidy Scheme for Designated Professions / Sectors(SSSDP), etc.

Hong Kong Aviation Scholarship Scheme 2023/24 (HKASS) is a scholarship scheme to be awarded by the Government of the HKSAR under the Maritime and Aviation Training Fund (MATF) is now open for application.

Objective

To encourage continuous professional enhancement for the aviation sector in Hong Kong.

Eligibility and Conditions

The nominees should –
The applicant must be a full-time* student newly enrolled in Bachelor of Aviation (Honours) in Operations and Management (“BAVOM”) offered by the UOW College Hong Kong (“UOWCHK”) in the academic year 2023/24.

  1. Applicants must have either right of abode, right to land or have entered Hong Kong on one- way permits. Students entering on Student or Dependent Visa are not eligible under the Scheme.
  2. Applicants must successfully complete the Programme.
  3. Applicants must be employed full-time in the aviation industry in Hong Kong for a period of not less than twelve consecutive calendar months, within three calendar months upon successful completion of the Programme.
  4. Applicants may be required to fulfill other requirement(s) prescribed by the UOWCHK as it thinks fit under the Scheme.
  5. Applicants must comply with the college's policies/regulations.

Amount of Scholarship

Full scholarships will be awarded to the selected students to complete their aviation-related degree or higher degree programmes. The exact scholarship amount to be offered is subject to the tuition fees of the relevant programmes, capped at about HK$100,000 each.

Assessment and Announcement of Results

UOWCHK nominees may be invited to attend a selection interview conducted by HKASS assessment panel tentatively to be held on mid January 2024. The assessment will be based on merits. The results of HKASS will depend on individual candidate’s performance and be announced by around March/April 2024.

Programme Features

  • The first 4-year full aviation Bachelor’s Degree programme in Hong Kong locally accredited by the Hong Kong Council for Accreditation of Academic and Vocational Qualifications (HKCAAVQ). Graduates from Associate Degree or Higher Diploma Programme in aviation and logistics related disciplines may apply for direct admission to year three studies of the programme.
  • This programme covers both operations and management aspects of aviation. Students will study the aviation operations courses in the first two to three years, such as those on the principles of flying, airline operations, airport operations, air freight operations, air traffic control, aircraft load balancing, airline dispatch, aviation security, etc. In the last two years, students will study the aviation management courses on airport management, airline management, business continuity, aviation human factors, aviation project, etc.
  • Students may choose to take the placement elective and work for various companies of the aviation industry to enhance their employability after graduation.
  • Other than the major in aviation studies, students may choose to do a minor in Finance, Accounting, Social Innovation, Chinese History and Culture, Chinese, Japanese on voluntary basis. They may choose to take elective courses in various disciplines instead of doing a minor.
